Training course on iGUESS-MED DSS held at the Association of Producer Organizations “C.S.C.” at Fondi (IT). 5 July 2024.

On the afternoon of 5 July 2024, a training course was held at the Association of Producer Organisations "C.S.C." at Fondi (province of Latina, Lazio, Italy), in collaboration with the EVJA, University of Pisa and CREA - Vegetable and Ornamental Crops. 

In the afternoon, from 14:30 to 17:00, a training course on the practical utilization of the iGUESS-MED PRIMA DSS was held, showing how works the DSS online. Dr. Simone Scarpa and Dr. Paolo Iasevoli (EVJA) presented an overview of the dashboard of an OPI station, highlighting the climate graphs and the alert functionality. Dr. Catello Pane (CREA) explained the forecasting models developed for Botritys and Alternaria diseases and illustred how works the alert system in the DSS, Dr. Alejandra Navarro Garcia (CREA) showcased the output of the VEGSYS model applied to soil tomato cultivation, while Prof. Luca Incrocci (UNIPI) illustrated the outputs of the SIMULHYDRO model for a soilless tomato cultivation. After that, a discussion was held with the participants to address any remaining technical queries. The event was attended by 20 persons, most of them were agronomists, growers and stakeholders. 

Additionally, Italian translations of the hands-on guidelines Integrated Pest Management Protocols and Integrated Disease Management Protocols, were distributed to the participants.

He is a Senior Researcher at the Research Centre for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops of CREA (Italy). His research interests include development and implementation of methods and technological innovation aimed at improving the effectiveness and sustainability of plant disease management. He is the author of many peer-reviewed and dissemination publications on his research topics. 

Dr. Catello Pane (CREA)

She is a is a Senior Researcher at the Research Centre for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops of CREA (Italy). Her research interests and expertise are plant-soil-water relationships, plant physiology, abiotic stresses, precision sensors for diagnosing water status and estimating transpiration in plants. Coordinator of the PRIMA Project iGUESS-MED

Dr. Alejandra Navarro Garcia (CREA)

He is a Professor in the Department of Agronomy at the University of Pisa, Italy, specializing in protected horticulture and soilless crop cultivation. With 25 years of research experience, his work has primarily focused on irrigation management and fertilization of soilless crops. He has also developed two dedicated software programs to advance practices in this field.
